WASHINGTON -- An increase in international trade activity in the United States, and the real estate activity it generates, create a strong foundation according to recent reports by the National Association of Realtors (NAR) that profile foreign visitors and immigration trends on a state-by-state basis.

Citing in part the significant rise in international business activity, the reports note an increase in “the flow of people across borders” as well. 

In Florida, roughly 15 percent of all real Estate sales in 2005 went to international buyers according to NAR.  Of the almost 5 million foreign visitors to the Sunshine State in 2005, more than 600,000 came for business-related activity.  Related real estate activity also isn’t limited to residential sales’ it includes rental housing and commercial property. The top five states for foreign (non-immigrant) visitors last year were:

 Florida - - 4,925,202 visitors

                        California - - 4,048,410 visitors         Texas - - 1,994,085 visitors

                        New York - - 3,732,586 visitors       Hawaii - - 1,755,788 visitors
